Work with Legacy Value Driver Trees
You can still work with legacy value driver trees in SAP Analytics Cloud, althought more features are available when creating a value driver tree in a story instead. Transform your legacy value driver trees into value driver tree (VDT) widgets to use newer features.
This section describes how to create, use, manage, and transform legacy value driver trees.
Transforming Legacy Value Driver Trees
In SAP Analytics Cloud, you can transform a legacy value driver tree into a value driver tree (VDT) widget so that you can work on it in your story and use newer features.
Context
The legacy value driver tree will still be available in the Value Driver Trees app after transformation. Select (Value Driver Trees) from the side navigation to find it.
There are a few things to consider when transforming a value driver tree:
-
Calculations from year over year, simple calculation, and union nodes are not included in the transformation process. The nodes themselves are included, and you can use them to display calculated measures from your story instead.
-
For year over year and simple calculation nodes, the output account will become the node’s measure after transformation. Union nodes won’t have a measure, though.
-
Only nodes shown in the Consumption view (that is, the nodes that appear in the story) will be copied to the new value driver tree.

Creating a Legacy Value Driver Tree
You can still create legacy value driver trees in SAP Analytics Cloud, although more features are available when creating a value driver tree in a story instead.
Context
-
It’s recommended to create value driver trees in the story, instead. See Set Up Value Driver Trees for Planning to learn how.
-
Your model needs to be a classic account model. Models with measures don't currently support legacy value driver trees.
Before you begin, you must have authorizations for working with legacy value driver trees; for example, the Modeler role.

Adding Nodes to a Legacy Value Driver Tree
In the Calculation tab in the legacy value driver tree (VDT) modeler in SAP Analytics Cloud, you create nodes to bring in data from the source model, perform calculations on it, and return the calculation results to the model. These nodes make up the calculation flow.
Context
You can use the Auto-Complete feature to immediately add multiple nodes based on the model’s account structure, and then create and configure additional nodes yourself if necessary.
Create a value driver tree and set up the model and time period before performing these steps. For more information, see Creating a Legacy Value Driver Tree.

Configuring a Legacy Value Driver Tree for Presentation
The calculation flow of a legacy value driver tree (VDT) in SAP Analytics Cloud can consist of many nodes, and some of them may not be important for decision makers. You can create a consumption flow to show the data from the calculation flow in a clearer and more streamlined way.
Prerequisites
Create a value driver tree, set up the model and time period, and add nodes to the Calculation tab before performing these steps. For more information, see Creating a Legacy Value Driver Tree and Adding Nodes to a Legacy Value Driver Tree.
Context
After you set up the model and time period for a value driver tree and add nodes in the Calculation tab, you can simplify the value driver tree for presentation by specifying which nodes will appear in a story, and rearranging links between nodes. The Consumption tab in the value driver tree modeler shows how the value driver tree will appear in a story.

Managing Legacy Value Driver Trees
In SAP Analytics Cloud, you can view and manage a list of the legacy value driver trees that you have access to from the start page of the value driver trees app.
To open the start page, select (Value Driver Trees) from the side navigation.
Select the name of a value driver tree (VDT) to view and edit it.
The following options are also available:
Option |
Description |
---|---|
(Search) |
Search for the name of a value driver tree. |
(Create Value Driver Tree) |
Add a new value driver tree. |
(Duplicate Value Driver Tree) |
Create a copy of the selected value driver tree, based on the same model and containing the same nodes. |
(Delete Value Driver Tree(s)) |
Delete the selected value driver trees. |
(Edit Value Driver Tree) |
Change the name or description of the selected value driver tree. To make changes to the nodes in the tree, select the name of the tree in the main list. |
(Reload List) |
Refresh the list of value driver trees. |
Exploring Model Data for a Legacy Value Driver Tree
When building a legacy value driver tree (VDT) in SAP Analytics Cloud, you can use the Examine view to work with the model data in a table view.
If you want to add or edit node values, select Examine in the Calculation or Consumption tab. This view splits the screen between the value driver tree nodes and a table with the model data.
If no node is selected, the table shows the model’s accounts in each year included in either the default calculation period or the default presentation period. The Category dimension is also filtered by the same version that is displayed in the value driver tree.
When you select a node, the relevant account values are displayed. The Source or Output account of the node is shown on the rows. For a union node, the accounts of each of the input nodes are added to the rows.
If the node is filtered by any other dimensions, the selected members for these dimensions are added to the rows of the table.
For data source nodes and the base value of year-over-year nodes, you can update booked values or create new values by typing in the corresponding table cells. These changes to the model data are reflected in the value driver tree, where updated nodes are highlighted in yellow.
