Delete, Copy, and Rebuild Models

Deleting a Model

You can delete a model and all related data.

Context

When you delete a model, the built-in dimensions Date and Version, and also any private dimensions, are automatically deleted, but public dimensions are kept, and can be reused in other models.

Note
  • You can delete models only if your user role has the privilege for deleting models.
  • Models that are in use in stories can't be deleted.

Procedure

  1. From the () Main Menu, select Files.
  2. Use the check boxes to select one or more models that you want to delete.
  3. Choose (Delete) from the toolbar.

Copying a Model

If you want to create a new model that's similar to an existing model, you can copy an existing model.

Context

Private dimensions are copied with the model, while public dimensions are referenced from the copied model. Transaction data is copied in all public versions. Private versions are not copied.

Note that models based on BPC data sources can't be copied (either basic models, or models with write-back to BPC enabled).

Procedure

  1. From the () Main Menu, select Files.
  2. Select the check box beside the model you want to copy.
If the model can be copied, the copy icon is enabled.
  3. Select (Copy To).
  4. Enter a Name and, optionally, a Description.
  5. Select the Include Data check box if you want to include fact data in the copied model.
If you clear the check box, only metadata and master data are copied.
  6. Select OK to create the copy.

Rebuilding a Model

You can use the Rebuild Model feature to modify public models created from acquired data.

Context

After a model is created from acquired data, you can rebuild the model if you need to fix issues such as missing dimensions or measures. This option lets you revert the model to the state based on the first set of acquired data.

Note
When you rebuild a model, any data updates that happened after the model was created will be removed.

You can't rebuild a model if the model is missing some dependencies needed for rebuild. This can happen if:

  • The model was created from a blank model, which can't be rebuilt because no data preparation was done.
  • The model was created before the rebuild feature was introduced.
  • The model was exported or imported without the object created along with a public model (called a wrangler) that contains information needed for rebuilding a model.
Note
  • If the Rebuild Model icon isn't available in the menu bar, the model cannot be rebuilt.
  • Even if sharing settings are applied, only the owner of the model can rebuild the model.

Procedure

  1. Select Start of the navigation path (Main Menu) Next navigation step  Browse Next navigation step  FilesEnd of the navigation path.
  2. Open the model you want to rebuild.
  3. Select the Rebuild Model icon from the menu bar.
The system checks if there are any dependencies in stories or data sources on the model you want to rebuild. Any findings are summarized in the displayed warning dialog. Make a note of all the listed dependencies.
  4. Check the I understand that the above dependencies will be impacted if I rebuild this model. box and select OK to continue.
The data integration view is displayed.
  5. Modify the model as required.
  6. Select Rebuild Model in the Details panel.
A confirmation message is displayed. Select Rebuild to rebuild your model.
    Note
Once you select Rebuild, the process will start and all the dependencies may be impacted.

Next Steps

You should check that all the stories associated with the original model work as expected.

Deleting Data from a Model

You can delete data facts from a model.

Context

Note
You can clear fact data only if your user role has the Maintain privilege for models.

Procedure

  1. From the () Main Menu, select Files.
  2. Select a model to open it in the Modeler.
  3. Select (Delete Facts).

The members for each dimension in the model are displayed.

    Note
    • The Delete Facts icon is enabled only when you select one model (not including live data models), for which you have the Maintain privilege.
    • Only dimensions that you have write access to are shown.
    • If Data Access Control was activated for a dimension, you will see only the members for which you have write access.
  4. Select the members that you want to clear.
You can select members from one dimension, then switch to other dimensions and select members of those dimensions. For example, to delete only the data actuals from 2013 and 2014, select the Version dimension, set the filter to Actual, and then select the Date dimension and set the filter to 2013 and 2014.
  5. After making all your selection, click OK.
