Adding Dynamic Text to a Story

In SAP Analytics Cloud, you can add dynamic text to a text box.

Dynamic text automatically updates the text based on either the values from the source input control or filter, or from any filters applied to dimensions.
You can add Smart Insight tokens displaying dynamic text to chart footers. From your chart, choose Start of the navigation path (More Actions) Next navigation step  Add Smart InsightsEnd of the navigation path. For more information, see Smart Insights.

  1. Select a text box in your story.
  2. From the (More Actions) menu, select Start of the navigation pathAdd Next navigation step  Dynamic TextEnd of the navigation path.
  3. In the Insert Dynamic Text dialog, select the check box for the object you want to use as the source for your dynamic text.

You can scroll through all the options, or select an option from the left side to display specific objects on the right.

    Team Signature

Use the team signature to identify who is authorized to modify the story.

When the story is modified by someone who isn't a member of the team, a warning message is displayed instead of the team name through a dynamic text that puts a mark in the story as a trust factor.

  4. Open the Designer and select the Styling panel.
  5. In the Dynamic Text section, change the following options.
    • Show excluded values as strikethrough

    • Number of values displayed

If you enter the number 5, the first 5 values are displayed in the specified input control, and extra values will be specified in parentheses.

For example, if the input control has 15 members and you chose to display only 5 members, the text will indicate that there are 10 more members in the input control: “(and 10 more)”.

  6. Select Create.

The dynamic text has been added to the story. The text will be updated based on the values from the source or filter, or from any filters applied to dimensions.
