Using Different Views in the Calendar

Learn about the different views of the calendar and which kinds of events you can display there.

The calendar displays the following events:
  • Composite tasks

  • General tasks

  • Review tasks

  • Data locking tasks

  • Processes

  • Automatic data actions

  • Publications (of stories or analytic applications)

  • Input tasks

    Note

General tasks and review tasks derive from the conversion of a composite task to a process, so they are displayed as child tasks of these processes. You can't create them.

Publications can be created in stories and analytic applications, or from the file repository. In the calendar you can only view them.

Input tasks can only be created in stories, but you can view them and make some changes in the calendar.

The Calendar space consists of a Calendar view, a Gantt view, and a List view:
  • All three views let you create and monitor tasks and processes.

  • All three views let you see your input tasks and publications.

The different views let you display tasks and processes in different formats:

  • Calendar view: Standard calendar layout (Day, Week, Month) showing all types of events.

The Calendar view displays the events without any hierarchical grouping: The links between child events and parent processes aren't visible. Use the Gantt or the List view to see these relationships.

  • Gantt view: Bar chart view of all types of events showing start and end dates. Tasks or processes that are child events of a process are shown with their parent process, surrounded by a box outline.

You can change the Gantt view to show a week, month, or year's worth of events.

    Tip

If the name of a task is too long for the display, you will only see part of the name. To switch between the short name and the full name, in the menu select (Display Full Name).

  • List view: A customizable table listing all types of events. This view has a table that lets you monitor your automated tasks (data action tasks and publications) as well as all other tasks and processes. You can adjust it to your needs by changing the displayed columns, by sorting, or by filtering the events. To view the status and progress of tasks or processes that are child events of a parent process, you can expand the parent process node.
