Optimized View Mode (Beta) Limitations

Optimized view mode improves loading time and provides some filter improvements, but it does not include all features found in the normal view mode.

A story designer can create a story that uses the standard view mode or the optimized view mode. The optimized view mode is a beta feature that is being modified regularly. Below are the features that are not yet supported in this view mode. The support status is updated with each release.

Browser support

The only supported browser is Google Chrome.

Features that are now supported
Story and Models:

  • Dynamic text for story information as well as for measure and dimension Input Controls.

  • Dynamic text for local filters (excluding tables).

Charts / Tables:

  • Auto Top N.

  • Model defined formatting for charts.

Filter / Input Controls and Calculations:

  • Model variables in the story filter bar.

  • Scoped page filters (filters with Linked Analysis).

  • Timestamp filter.

  • Filter reset.

  • Dimension and measure Input Control consumption for Geo maps and tables.

Backwards compatibility

For the initial release of the optimized view mode, there is no backwards compatibility. After each update of SAP Analytics Cloud, you should re-save any stories that have Optimized View Mode enabled.

If you are unable to access your optimized view mode story, then add ;optimized=false at the end of your URL.

Unsupported areas and applications

Optimized view mode is not yet available for the following areas or applications.

  • Analytic Application

  • Digital Boardroom

  • OEM (Embedded SAP Analytics Cloud)

  • Data Analyzer

  • Data Warehouse Cloud

  • Mobile / Android (WebView)

  • Search to Insight (Natural Language Query)

Unsupported model types

If your story contains any of the following model types, you won't be able to use optimized view mode.

  • HANA Models with Enriched Time

  • Subset of Acquired Data Models

    • Planning Enabled

    • Currency Conversion Enabled

    • Fiscal Time Enabled

  • BW

  • Live Universe

  • Unauthorized Data Models

Features and situations that prevent saving a story

You can't save the story in optimized view mode if it has the following situations.

  • The story uses the following unsupported story or page filters:

    • Custom Current Date

    • Measure Based Filter

    • Numeric Range Filters

    • Filters with Single Value Slider

  • The story only contains objects that are not supported.

  • Client Side filtering across models.

Features in a story that will show a ghost widget

The following features are not yet supported in optimized view mode. Any charts, tables, or other widgets that contain these items will display a ghost widget instead, along with a message listing the unsupported features. (A ghost widget is a grayed out version of the widget.)

  • Unbooked Data

  • Calculations:

    • Calculations with Time / Numeric Ranges

    • Cross Calculations

    • Dynamic ToDate Functions

  • Geographical Specific Features:

    • Choropleth Layer

    • Tooltip Chart

    • Map Filter Input Control

  • Objects:

    • R-Widget

    • Dynamic Image

    • Time Series

    • Histogram

  • Static Calculation Input Controls

  • Measure Based Formatting in Table

  • Threshold Consumption with Table

  • Access Saved Explorer Views

  • Export to CSV

  • Bookmarks

  • Page and Story Hyperlinks

  • Compare To

  • Pin to Home

  • Axis Alignment

  • Story Refresh

  • Copy Widgets

  • Save Story

  • Commenting (Object and Data Point)

  • Creation of Complex (Advance) Filters in View Mode

  • Search to Insight (Natural Language Query)

  • Certain Linked Analysis:

    • Linked Analysis with Spatial Filter and Color by Dimension

    • Hierarchy Level Selection in Charts

    • Widget Filter and Drill Actions Apply to All Widgets in Story

    • Table as a Sender

  • Story Dimension and Measure Rename

  • Modeler Dimension and Measure Rename (Live HANA)

Planning features

Optimized view mode doesn't yet support planning features (for example, Data Actions, VDT, Data Point Commenting, and so on).

Predictive features

Optimized view mode doesn't yet support predictive features.
