Exploring Model Data for a Legacy Value Driver Tree

When building a legacy value driver tree (VDT), you can use the Examine view to work with the model data in a table view.

Note
This process relates to legacy value driver trees. See Adding a Value Driver Tree for details about creating a value driver tree in a story, where more features are available.

If you want to add or edit node values, select Examine in the Calculation or Consumption tab. This view splits the screen between the value driver tree nodes and a table with the model data.

If no node is selected, the table shows the model’s accounts in each year included in either the default calculation period or the default presentation period. The Category dimension is also filtered by the same version that is displayed in the value driver tree.

When you select a node, the relevant account values are displayed. The Source or Output account of the node is shown on the rows. For a union node, the accounts of each of the input nodes are added to the rows.

If the node is filtered by any other dimensions, the selected members for these dimensions are added to the rows of the table.

For data source nodes and the base value of year-over-year nodes, you can update booked values or create new values by typing in the corresponding table cells. These changes to the model data are reflected in the value driver tree, where updated nodes are highlighted in yellow.
