Public Account Dimensions

A public account dimension is beneficial for ensuring that the common accounts (both base accounts without formulas or exception aggregation, and calculated accounts) behave the same across all models that share that account dimension.

For example, it doesn't make sense to have different exception aggregation types for the same account in different models.

Because public dimension settings are shared across models, any changes made to the settings are reflected across all of the models. If you change any of the following dimension settings, be careful to specify them correctly, because the changes could have unintended side-effects:

  • Aggregation Type
  • Exception Aggregation Type
  • Formula
  • Calculate On
Note
Formulas based on dimensions aren't shared across models. However, it is not recommended to have different formulas for the same account, because doing so could lead to incompatible aggregation and exception aggregation.

If you want to use different settings for the same account members, use a private account dimension instead of a public one.
