Deleting an Object or FolderLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You can permanently delete objects or folders that are located in the Portal Catalog using the Delete action in the Portal Catalog context menus. If you delete a folder, its contents - including subfolders - are also deleted.

Note

The Portal Catalog does not display child objects embedded in other objects, such as iViews assigned to a page, or a page assigned to a role. To delete child objects, you must use the delete function available in the respective object editor.

When using the Delete action in a context menu, the Delete wizard first performs a series of verification steps before proceeding. For more information, see Verification Criteria

Caution

After the selected objects have been deleted, they cannot be restored. There is no recovery feature in the portal.

Procedure

Deleting a Folder or Object in the Portal Catalog

  1. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the folder or object that you want to delete, choose Delete . The Delete Wizard appears.

    Note

The wizard immediately locks the selected object or folder (and the objects in the selected folder) until the delete action has been completed and the wizard closes.

  2. If the object that you are deleting is a source object that is referenced by other objects using a delta link, the dependent objects are displayed and you can choose to delete some or all of the dependent objects together with the source object.

    Note
    • Dependent objects that are not deleted may not function properly after the source object has been deleted.

    • The list of dependent objects does not include objects that are used in external scenarios, such as remote delta links.

    • You cannot delete dependent objects that are part of a transport package.

  3. Complete the wizard. You are notified when the selected objects have been successfully deleted. All remaining objects that were locked by the system as a result of the action are then released.

    Note

If the delete action is interrupted before the selected objects have been deleted, the Portal Catalog is restored to its initial state.

Deleting an Object Contained in a Parent Object

  1. Open the parent object that contains the object that you want to delete. For more information, see Editing Portal Objects

  2. In the editor, select the object you want to delete and click Delete .
