Specify work center categories

In this step, you specify the work center category and then assign it to an application.

The work center category determines which data can be maintained in the master record of the work center.

The work center category allows you to use work centers for different functions, such as scheduling or costing.

You must assign each work center category to an application, for example, production, plant maintenance or networks.

You can define default work centers for each work center category and each plant. The data you maintain in the default work centers is used when you create work centers.

You define default work centers in step Create default work center.

You define the screen sequence in step Define screen sequence.

In the standard SAP R/3 System, SAP has predefined work center category 0006 (project management) and assigned it to networks.

1. Define work center categories as needed.

2. Assign the work center categories to an application.
