Creating a Structure Package
Structure packages
form the top level in the package hierarchy and are used to define the
conditions for decoupling system components.
To create or change a structure package you need authorization for the activity 02 (Change) in the authorization object S_PACKSTRU.

1. In the Object Navigator (transaction SE80), open the Repository Browser and choose Package as the object type.
2. In the field below, enter the name of the new package and choose Enter.

The name should
conform to the
naming conventions
for packages.
If the package does not exist, the Package Builder: Create Package dialog box appears.
3. Choose Yes.
The Package Builder: Create Package dialog box appears.
4. Enter the following package attributes:
○ Short Text
○ Application Component
From the component hierarchy of the SAP system, choose the application component to which you want to assign the structure package.
○ Software component
The software component describes a set of development objects that are delivered in a single unit. All the main packages of the structure package are assigned to this software component.

Packages that are not delivered to customers should be assigned to the HOME software component.
○ Surrounding Package
Choose Structure Package.
○ Main Package Indicator
A main package does not contain development objects itself, it only provides a structure
for grouping objects. You cannot change this setting after you have created the package.
○ Project
ID of a cProject.
5. Choose Save.
6. Assign the new package to a transport request.
You have created an empty structure package and now you can define a package hierarchy. You can create a main package and add it to the structure package. For more information, see Creating Main Packages.
BASIS, ABA, HR, APPL, APPL_TOOLS, and the Enterprise Extensions (EA-FIN, EA-HR) are examples of structure packages delivered with the SAP ERP System.
