Monitoring 
Different components, applications and services are shipped with the portal. There are various monitoring and logging applications available for monitoring these objects. These applications check and monitor the portal in the background. Applications such as performance monitoring and activity tracing provide information about the status and help locate critical system events. You can use the information delivered by the monitoring, logging, and tracing applications to analyze the system and take appropriate action where necessary.
Central and efficient monitoring of the portal is performed by the Computer Center Management System in the Solution Manager, SAP's service and support platform, and by the SAP NetWeaver Administrator (NWA), the Web Dynpro-based tool for administration and monitoring, which offers a central point of entry for the entire SAP NetWeaver system landscape. There is also SMART, which uses portal-related BI queries to generate reports about portal activities. Integration with BI offers several advantages: the use of advanced BI capabilities, additional queries can created to satisfy specific information requirements. (There no documentation available for SMART at this time.)
