Procedure documentationArchiving and Extracting Legacy System Data

To be able to create a completely ILM-compliant mapping of data from legacy systems in the Retention Warehouse system, you need to extract all transaction and master data for open and completed business processes, including the related context data, from the legacy system.

Procedure

  1. Archive the data that exists for the archiving objects.

    1. Call up Archive Administration (transaction SARA).

    2. Archive Completed Business Processes with the archiving function for standard archiving objects.

    3. Use the Snapshot function in Archive Administration to archive Open Business Processes as well as Master Data.

      Note Note

You can use the available ILM-enabled archiving objects to fully archive completed as well as open business processes.

You can use non ILM-enabled archiving objects only to archive completed business processes. Use the Context Data Extractor (CDE) to extract the data that corresponds to open business processes.

      End of the note.

For more information, see: Archiving with Archive Development Kit (ADK) in SAP NetWeaver Library

  2. Use CDE to extract all open business processes from non ILM-enabled archiving objects, transaction data or master data that does not belong to an archiving object, as well as context data (Customizing settings and metadata).

    1. To access the CDE, start transaction ILM_E_SELECT in the SAP system.

(You can also access the CDE from the menu created by transaction ILM. To do so, choose Start of the navigation path Extraction Next navigation step Archive Data for ILM End of the navigation path.)

    2. Enter the following data:

      • Extract name

      • Company code and fiscal year

      • Languages in which the data to be extracted is available

      • Application

    3. Execute the extraction.

Result

In the legacy system to be decommissioned, you have created archive files for all of the data that you want to transfer to the Retention Warehouse system.
