Concept Development 

Purpose

This process streamlines and structures the development of a concept from an idea to the point at which product development can start.

You can:

·        Create new product concepts

This can be done by business developers.

·        Provide information

This can be done by subject matter experts.

·        Monitor and manage all concept phases

This can be done by the concept owner.

The key benefits of this process are as follows:

·         It is phase-based, thus making development progress easy to gauge

·         The representation of phases, deliverables and workflows associated with concept development is supported through concept templates

Prerequisites

Each user must have the required access rights.

Concept templates must be configured.

Process Flow

This process is usually preceded by Idea Management, but you can also create concepts from scratch (that is, not based on a particular idea).

This process includes the following functions:

·        Search Concepts

·        Create Concept

·        Assign Team Member

·        Provide Information

·        Implement Decision

·        Attach Document

This function is the same for both ideas and concepts.

·        Relate Ideas and Concepts

This function is the same for both ideas and concepts.

·        Specify Classification

This function is the same for both ideas and concepts.

·        Set Up Timeline

·        Add New Deliverable

·        Assign Deliverable to Subject Matter Expert

·        Discuss Concept

·        Provide Deliverable

·        Enter Metric Values

·        Monitor Deliverables

·        Create Project in SAP cProjects

Result

The result of this process is a concept object with:

·        Deliverables that provide background information and specific analyses

·        Classifications

·        Metric values

·        Information from discussions

As long as a concept is approved at the end of the concept development phase, it can serve as the basis for product development.
