Several new or changed features are available for SAP NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC) 5.0.
As of SAP NWBC 5.0 you can connect to SAP GUI systems within the NWBC shell.
For more information, see System Connections.
SAP GUI sessions are by default opened in new tabs. It is now possible to open SAP GUI sessions in new windows.
For more information, see SAP GUI Sessions.
For more information, see SAP GUI Sessions.
For more information, see Quick Launch.
For more information, see New Tab Page.
For more information, see Favorites.
The Stop Transaction function coming from the SAP GUI window menu is now available in the context menu of an NWBC tab.
For more information, see Direct Actions.
SAP Easy Access can be launched directly from the New Tab page to browse the SAP Menu.
When opening a transaction, the current SAP GUI canvas is reused.
NWBC initializes a SAP GUI process and communication layer between NWBC and SAP GUI immediately after the system connection is established. This enhances the performance when starting the first transaction after logon.
For more information, see Performance Analysis.
The NWBC system selector provides a single entry point to NWBC as well as SAP GUI connections and shortcuts.
The system selector provides two views: A list view and an explorer view. Both views can be filtered and sorted.
Workspaces are an additional option to structure and filter connections.
For more information, see System Connections.
SAP Shortcuts are mapped to NWBC and can be used to start SAP GUI connections directly in NWBC. Applications addressed in NWBC start-up URLs are opened within an existing NWBC window if the connection matches the user and client.
For more information, see SAP Shortcuts.
The desktop client version is by default rendered in the SAP Corbu standard theme, which is a theme with a light, neutral design and enlarged resolution for better readability. Nevertheless, users can keep the theme that is set in the SAP GUI options.
A new standard theme, SAP Blue Crystal, is available under the Theme field in the Personalize dialog box. This is applied to the shell, Index and New Tab page, and also to SAP GUI transactions - unless you specify Use SAP GUI theme in the personalization settings. UI theme designer support for the SAP Blue Crystal base theme is available as of NW UI Add On 1.0 Sp15/SAP_UI 1.0 SP15 and NW UI Add On 2.0 SP02/SAP_UI 2.0 SP02.
For more information, see Personalization Settings.
You can add applications, transactions, and Web pages that you use frequently to your Favorites. Favorites are system-dependent. The list can therefore vary depending on your system connection. Web links are independent from systems and are therefore kept in the list also when you switch systems.
You can add Favorites to folders that you can order hierarchically and you can choose where to add the Favorites item to the list by using your cursor.
For more information, see Favorites.
The icon for the side panel has changed from a switch to a toggle-button. The new icon is found next to the quick launch bar. Using a new setting, side panels can automatically be opened with the application.
Personalization Settings
Logon (New Section):
Hide system selector on start-up: This checkbox was previously in the section Other.
Entry Page: Users can choose one of the following options as an entry page: first pinned tab, Index page, new tab page, or first workcenter page.
Client Language: Users can explicitly select a different language as the client language (the language with which NWBC is started).
Use client language on system logon screen: Users can select this checkbox to ensure that system logon screens use the same language as the client language (see above). This setting overrules a language predefined in a system connection. It allows users to log on in a different language (than is the default) when authenticating through Single Sign-On; without this, there is no possibility to change the language in the system logon screen.
Administrator Configuration File: If this field is visible, users can change the source file for administrator-defined connection configuration settings.
User Configuration File (Path): If this field is visible, users can change the path for their own self-defined connection configuration settings.
SAP GUI Interoperability:
Use SAP GUI theme: Users can choose to keep the theme that they have set in the SAP GUI options instead of using the Corbu theme, which is the default setting.
Open session in new window: Users can select this checkbox to open SAP GUI sessions in new windows instead of new tabs, which is the default setting.
Show transaction codes: Users can display the transaction code of a transaction.
Merge system function bar and application bar: Users can merge the system function bar and the application bar.
Show title bar: Users can display the SAP GUI title bar of an application in the content area.
For more information, see Personalization Settings.
Renaming of Tabs
Tabs can be renamed. For more information, see Personalization of Navigation Structure.
Switching Off NWBC Built-In Search Providers (Administrator)

Work center titles on the Index Page now contains links, offering users direct access to the work center's default page.
The table shows the correct SP levels:
For more information, see Business Client Versions. This chapter reflects the currently-supported NWBC versions, in particular the new SAP NWBC 5.0.
Prerequisites for SAP NWBC 5.0 Standalone
Software
SAP GUI for Windows 7.40
For more information, see NWBC for Desktop Installation.
NWBC can read, write, and parse the SAP UI landscape format. The System Selection dialog is now based on SAPUILandscapeGlobal.xml (administrator configuration file) under %APPDATA%\SAP\Common and NwbcOptions.xml.
A new user configuration file is implemented under the file name SAPUILandscape.xml
If no local user-specific SAP UI landscape file exists, NWBC creates a local SAP UI landscape file by parsing and converting the local NwbcOptions.xml and the local saplogon.ini together in one file that is stored under %APPDATA%\SAP\Common.
If no administrator configuration file exists, NWBC creates the SAPUILandscapeGlobal.xml under %APPDATA%\SAP\Common\. The file contains message servers, routers, and NWBC connections from the NwbcOptions.xml file.
For more information, see chapter Connection Configuration.
SAP NWBC 5.0 can now be installed together with SAP GUI 7.40 in one installation step.
For more information, see Installing NWBC with SAP GUI.
NWBC offers the possibility to integrate content from other systems by using the property Target System in PFCG, either for single menu entries or for a whole role.
For more information, see Remote Systems.
NWBC Shell
Tap
In general, all functions in NWBC can be triggered using the tap gesture (the equivalent of a mouse-click). All controls that support the MouseClick property, such as buttons, are supported and can be triggered, selected or activated using the tap gesture.
Slide to Scroll
Scrollable controls such as ListViews, containers with scrollbars, and Tree controls (such as navigation panes) support scrolling using the slide to scroll gesture, the equivalent of scrolling with the mouse.
Press and Hold
The press and hold gesture, similar to a right-mouse click, can be used on items for displaying context menus. For example, tabs and items in the navigation panel have context menus which can be shown using this gesture.
Slide to Rearrange
The tab bar supports the use of the slide to rearrange gesture (similar to drag-and-drop) for rearranging tabs.
Pinch or Stretch to Zoom
This gesture is supported only for zooming in embedded Internet Explorer applications.
NWBC Content Area
NWBC is not responsible for the support of Windows touchscreen gestures in the content area; this is the responsibility of the content developer.
NWBC does not support the gestures Rotate and Swipe or Slide from the Edge.
