A scorecard helps organizations monitor performance by tying a company’s strategy to key objectives and measures. Scorecards enable executives to communicate their strategy to the organization as well as monitor their resources towards executing on that strategy.

The Scorecard component in SAP BusinessObjects Strategy Management provides a personalized view of progress toward specific outcomes across functional and business units. The Scorecard component includes an objective view to monitor performance toward goals, a KPI overview to consolidate key financial and operational indicators, and a scorecard comparison view to compare scorecards across multiple contexts.

An intuitive, “traffic light” alert system color-codes performance status with red (underperforming and needs attention), amber (potential issues) or green (meeting objectives currently), quickly highlighting exceptions and enabling timely resolution to problematic business issues.

Features

The Scorecard component has these features:

  • You can monitor objectives and associated details like descriptions, related initiatives, and supporting key performance indicators. The Objectives view enables everyone to understand the impact on performance.

    For more information, see Objectives.

  • You can monitor each KPI with associated details like descriptions, the gap between actual and target, and comments. Trending of KPIs over time improves understanding of extended performance, not just previous-period performance.

For more information, see Scorecard Overviews.

  • You can compare scorecards across multiple contexts to look for any inconsistencies in performance across your areas of responsibility and investigate further.

For more information, see Scorecard Comparison.

  • You can filter the view to look at just the information you are interested in.

    For more information, see Filters.

  • You can use the navigation links below the subtabs to move between the top summary view or a detail view.

  • Depending on how many levels of status indicators your administrator set up, the status indicator might be colored one of three colors or one of five colors.

The table below shows the color representations based on the number of potential status colors:

Note Note

A scorecard's objectives and KPIs appear in most components of the application. Use the Home component to subscribe to particular objectives and KPIs so you can keep track of them moving forward. In the Home component, you can receive notification when an objective's status changed, when a comment is added to an objective, when the status of a selected KPI changed from last period to this period, and when a comment is added to any of the selected KPIs.

End of the note.

Activities

  • Click the Objectives subtab to go to the Objectives view.

  • Click the Scorecard Overviews subtab to go to the Scorecard Overviews view.

  • Click the Scorecard Comparison subtab to go to the Scorecard Comparison view.

  • To control whether the scorecard legend is displayed, click Preferences, and then select the Display Scorecard Legend option.

If your objectives are not associated with KPIs yet, and they do not have status indicators, you would typically hide the legend because it has no relevance.
