SAP BusinessObjects Strategy Management is an analytic application that allows users to manage their strategy and tie it to execution. Users can automate and make more effective the process of setting goals, managing the initiatives put into place to drive the success of the goals, and track and manage the metrics put into place to measure the organization’s performance toward achieving its goals. Typically organizations accomplish these tasks by following processes that are highly manual and written in spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and e-mails.

SAP Library documentation for the strategy management application includes:

Administration
  • Administration Guide: Enables strategy management administrators to create the necessary components for the application, and also maintain and optimize the application using the Administrator. The Administrator allows organizations to distribute administrative tasks to multiple people throughout the organization, promoting self-service.

  • Diagram Manager Guide: Structures your contexts, mission, vision, perspectives, objectives, and KPIs, along with their associated performance scores, into goal diagrams, process flows, geographic maps, and other organizational diagrams. Once published, these diagrams support communication and collaboration between different functional and strategic business groups of your organization.

  • Entry and Approval Guide: Streamlines the process of populating metrics into a performance management system. A workflow system provides structure around the process, reducing the amount of time spent on metrics collection and approval.

Strategy Management Applications
  • Home Guide: Provides each user with their own personalized view into the strategy management application. Through system messages and a condensed personalized performance summary, Home monitors both individual and organizational performance.

  • Operational Reviews Guide: Formalizes the operational review process of capturing, consolidating, and presenting certified information on goals, initiatives and metrics. Users can consolidate information captured from anywhere within the strategy management application into a unified story of performance and publish it externally, distributing performance insights to constituents who don't have direct access to the system.

  • Strategy Guide: Consisting of pathways, process and goal diagrams, and cause & effect, the Strategy component provides a collaborative environment to visualize, discuss, and update goals. Goal diagrams and pathways help motivate employees and foster a sense of ownership by communicating the organization’s vision and mission, as well as the underlying steps to achieving them.

  • Scorecard Guide: Provides a personalized view of progress toward specific outcomes. The Scorecard determines when to move to the next phase of your performance management implementation, monitors performance toward goals, and consolidates key financial and operational indicators.

  • Initiatives Guide: Helps stakeholders prioritize and focus resources appropriately even in the face of conflicting tasks so that resources support the milestones most critical to organizational goals. The initiatives component provides summary views of initiatives supporting overall objectives, as well as the milestones supporting each initiative, interdependencies between them, and schedule and budget status.

  • Dashboard Guide: Provides live, role-based dashboards, which help individuals get a quick overview of key organizational metrics to evaluate how they are performing at various levels within the organization. Dashboards can be linked to underlying analyses, allowing deeper investigation to isolate and understand the drivers of performance.

  • Reports (Standard) Guide: Enables users to quickly measure ongoing progress toward objectives.

  • Reports (Advanced) Guide: For analysts seeking more depth to aid decision-making, advanced Reports capabilities provide virtually boundless analysis options to measure and uncover the root of performance issues. Integrated forecasting capabilities help analysts project future performance and plan ahead based on current reality.
