Use

The Mobile Engine provides a platform-independent framework for the three new offline mobile scenarios for Enterprise Buyer. Mobile devices such as palmtop computers, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), and laptops use the Mobile Engine to run business applications offline. The three new scenarios are Shop, Inbox, and Plant Maintenance. Once the user has maintained the necessary data in the mobile device, it can be synchronized with any SAP system via a standard Internet connection.

Integration

The Mobile Engine is role-based and is fully integrated in to the mySAP Mobile Workplace. The user has a personalized start page that is generated automatically on the basis of the services assigned to the user. No administrative activity is required on the mobile device; installation and update of applications take place automatically.

Prerequisites

You require a mobile device with:

Note

The Mobile Engine will run on any platform supporting Java.

Features

The Mobile Engine for offline applications in Enterprise Buyer provides the following benefits:

The Mobile Engine is fully based on Java technology and runs on any platform supporting Java.

Since the Mobile Engine can generate any kind of plain markup language, no proprietary browser has to be installed on the device.

The Mobile Engine allows you to run the same applications offline and online. This allows for post-processing of submitted data in case of errors.

The Mobile Engine is fully integrated into the mySAP Mobile Workplace and, therefore, perfectly integrates with all other kinds of scenarios.

As the Mobile Engine offers a variety of application program interfaces (APIs) for storing data locally on the device and synchronizing data with an SAP system, application developers do not need to handle any device-specific dependencies.

Console on Enterprise Buyer system provides an overview of all offline applications per user and mobile device.

Shows which offline applications are installed on a mobile device and which should be installed based on the assigned roles and personally assigned offline applications.
