Component documentation Reporting with BW Queries Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

After completing the consolidation tasks, you can evaluate the data by means of BW queries.

SAP delivers a variety of pre-defined queries you can use. Plus, you can create your own custom queries to meet your specific requirements.

Integration

You create reports:

·       With pre-defined queries from Structure linkBusiness Content in BW

·       With Structure linkyour own queries you define in the BW system with the Business Explorer Analyzer

Features

You can analyze the totals data contained in the InfoCube for totals data as follows:

·       To generate technical reports – such as database listings – you can define queries directly on top of the InfoCube for totals data (InfoCubes Structure link0BCS_C10 or Structure link0BCS_C11).

·       To generate business reports you use the predefined Structure linkvirtual InfoCubes 0BCS_VC10 or 0BCS_VC11. The virtual InfoCubes are based on the associated BasicCube for totals data.

Business Reports

The following illustration shows how the totals data of the BasicCube is evaluated with the aid of a virtual InfoCube:

...

      1.      You define a query on top of the virtual InfoCube (or you use an existing query).

      2.      The function module that belongs to the virtual InfoCube submits the query with its selection conditions to the corresponding SEM-BCS programs.

      3.      The SEM-BCS programs tailor the selection conditions and select the totals data from the BasicCube.

      4.      The SEM-BCS programs interpret the totals data read from the BasicCube.

      5.      The SEM-BCS programs return the results to the virtual InfoCube.

      6.      The report is output in the BW system.

Reports with Combined Characteristic "Fiscal Year/Period"

The fiscal year and period are the only time characteristics of the two InfoCubes delivered by SAP – 0BCS_C10 and 0BCS_C11 (and hence the corresponding virtual InfoCubes 0BCS_VC10 and 0BCS_VC11). However, for reporting purposes, you may want to use the combination of both characteristic values in characteristic "fiscal year/period" (Structure link0FISCPER), which has been created for this purpose. To do this, you simply add characteristic 0FISCPER as a time characteristic to the appropriate virtual InfoCube. Afterwards, you include the characteristic in your queries and then use it in your reports.

Note

Adding characteristic 0FISCPER to the virtual InfoCube suffices. As long as you need the characteristic only for reporting purposes, it does not need to be added to either the underlying basic cube or the consolidation data basis.

Upgrades overwrite any changes you make to SAP Business Content. However, since the change described here only affects the virtual InfoCube (and not the basic cube), such an upgrade does not cause loss of data related to the addition of characteristic 0FISCPER. After an upgrade, to be able to use a query that includes characteristic 0FISCPER, you need to add the characteristic back to the virtual InfoCube.
