Background documentation Planning Considerations for Transporting Mixed Applications Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

You can guarantee the consistency of your application by defining certain aspects of your configuration and transports in advance. Establish how you want to respond to the following open points at the earliest opportunity, in the planning stage of your development project:

·        Type of development

Are you developing on a single layer or does your project involve layered development? In a layered development project, you must decide the layer in which the components are created for external calls.

·        Configuration

Once you have decided on your development type, you can configure your system landscape. You must decide which administrator is responsible for the configuration of the transport systems.

·        Interfaces

Define the interfaces of the components as early as possible.

Do not make any changes to interfaces during the development phase. If external calls are used, it is possible that these changes may not be detected, or detected too late. For this reason, change interfaces by prior agreement only.

·        Transports

Create a schedule for transports in both transport systems. You can transport your software changes at regular intervals, or at an agreed time of your choice.
