Use

The BEx Query Designer for SAP NetWeaver 2004s is a complete new implementation of the existing BEx Query Designer from SAP NetWeaver ’04 or earlier SAP BW Releases that has the following new features:

New Technical Features

·        Input and display of Unicode texts is supported

·        Support of visually-impaired or blind users has been improved.

·        Improved processing speed during editing of queries.

New Functional Features

·        The filter of a query can also be saved as a reusable object.

·        The filter of a query now allows you to set default values for the filter area at runtime.

·        The creation of queries that permit data changes is supported. These queries are required for creating planning applications.

·        Variables can contain multiple default values.

·        Variables can automatically be replaced by the value of other variables.

·        Properties of structure elements can be redefined by cell using exception cells.

·        Properties of structure elements can also now be referenced. For example, the structure element should always display the same text as the assigned key figure.

New Features in Operation

·        Multiple objects can be edited at the same time.

·        Properties of objects are displayed immediately

·        Warnings and messages are displayed in a new message window.

·        Warnings and messages permit navigation to the error location.

·        Warnings and messages also include suggestions for solving the problem.

·        All editing areas of a query can be reached easily using tab pages.

·        The actions performed by users are visualized early and support them in their tasks.

Effects on Existing Data

The BEx Query Designer tool and functionality from SAP NetWeaver ’04 or earlier SAP BW Releases is still available. All existing queries can continue to be processed with the BEx Query Designer.

All existing queries can be processed without further effort using the BEx Query Designer from SAP NetWeaver 2004s.

Effects on Data Transfer

Queries that were processed with the BEx Query Designer from SAP NetWeaver 2004s can no longer be opened with the BEx Query Designer from SAP NetWeaver 2004s or earlier SAP BW Releases. This also applies to queries that contain reusable components (variables, calculated or restricted key figures or structures), as long one of the reusable components was processed with the BEx Query Designer from SAP NetWeaver 2004s.

Effects on System Administration

The option of saving the filter for the query as reusable can be deactivated using authorizations. A new object type was introduced for this purpose (DEFTP = “SOB”). By default, users that are only allowed to save specific object types would not be able to save reusable filters. After an upgrade, an expansion of the authorizations S_RS_COMP and S_RS_COMP1 would thus be useful.
