Single Selection
This object defines a selection condition for a characteristic. You can set up a single selection so that it can be reused for customizing consolidation functions.
For example, you can reuse a single selection as a complex selection in the following consolidation functions.

Within a single selection you can use the following selection conditions:
· Single values and ranges
· Hierarchies and hierarchy nodes
· Selections across multiple characteristics
· Selections across attributes of a characteristic
You can use all of the selection conditions listed here within a single selection at the same time.
Here you can select individual characteristics and/or ranges of characteristics.
These are some of the operators you can use for individual characteristics: =, ¹, <, £, >, ³.
For ranges, you can use inclusive ranges [ ] and exclusive ranges ] [.
Furthermore, you can use patterns [x] (for example, CU 1* for all consolidation units that start with “CU 1”).
You can use inclusive and exclusive selections for entire hierarchies or for hierarchy nodes.
When dealing with several characteristics that are based on the same basic characteristic, you can define selections across multiple characteristics.

Basic characteristic: company
Characteristics: consolidation unit; partner unit; investee unit
Selection: consolidation unit = partner unit
You can use all of the selection conditions listed above for an attribute.
You can use all attributes that you have designated as a selection attribute in the data basis.
You can start a single selection as follows:
· In the process view of the workbench: Master Data ® Single Selection;
·
While customizing a
complex selection (
) for one of the consolidation functions listed
above:
You choose Complex Selection in the context menu of the posting window in the consolidation function. Then, the subwindow for the single selection appears in the lower screen area.
· While customizing a breakdown category:
In the process view of the workbench, you choose Master Data ® Subassignments ® Breakdown Category, and you call up a breakdown category to be changed. On the Default and Maximum Selection tab, you can create a complex selection for the default selection and/or maximum selection by choosing Complex Selection in the context menu.
The user interface of a single selection has the following layout:

Here you define your selection condition.
This area lists the values of the characteristic – either as a simple list or as a hierarchy (if hierarchies exist).
If the
characteristic has attributes, you can use the dropdown box
xxx to show a list of attributes for the
characteristic.
When
cross-characteristic mode
is used,
you can select the characteristics that belong to the basic
characteristic.
You can drag values from the list to the value columns in the input area.
Here, you can enter the technical name and a description for the single selection.
Reusability of a single selection is discussed in a section further below.

|
Insert Initialized Value |
Inserts a new row, preceded by “=”; all other cells are blank and not ready for input. The initialized value is selected. Only one row is allowed per characteristic. The same applies to attributes. |

Sort in Ascending Order |
Sorts in blocks Order: higher-level characteristics, the characteristic, attributes of the characteristic; Order for subordinate blocks for an individual characteristic: inclusive ranges/hierarchy nodes, exclusive ranges/hierarchy nodes, characteristics across characteristics |
|
Sort in Descending Order |
|
|
Check |
Checks the consistency of the selection conditions in the single selection |
|
Test Run |
Produces a list of all values that are selected according to the selection condition |
|
Expand Selection |
Presents the selection condition as string of characters, which shows Boolean links (AND/OR) between the rows |
|
Show Name / Hide Name |
Shows or hides the names for the values in the “From” and “To” columns |
|
Show Attributes / Hide Attributes |
Shows an additional column. Here, you can enter the name of an attribute or select it using input help. The column can be hidden only if no attributes have been inserted. |
|
Cross-Characteristic |
Toggles the mode: You can select only the characteristics that belong to the same basic characteristic. |
|
Open Selection Area / Close Selection Area |
Opens/closes the selection area that lists the individual characteristics, individual attributes, hierarchies, or hierarchy nodes, which you can drag into the value columns |
|
<Characteristic> or <Attributes of This Characteristic> |
Displays a list of the characteristic values or the characteristic hierarchies of the leading characteristic; or displays a list of all attributes or attribute hierarchies |

In this column, you
can display the operators for your selection condition using the context menu
(for example,
. for cross-characteristic
selection,
. for ranges of a
characteristic, or
. for excluding nodes
of a hierarchy).
Here you enter the values for the characteristic or the attribute.
Here, you determine whether to display the hierarchies and values of the leading characteristic or an attribute in the selection area.
The selection area shows the hierarchies and values of the leading characteristic or an attribute.
In order to reuse a single selection, it needs to have a technical name. A maximum of 10 characters is allowed.
You can also create a reusable single selection when customizing a consolidation function. The single selection is then listed in the process view of the workbench under Master Data ® Single Selection.
If you want to use a selection condition only once, you do not need a reusable single selection. In this case, you can create a non-reusable single selection in the Customizing area of a consolidation task when defining selection conditions by leaving the technical name field blank.
You want a selection condition to select all consolidation units that have manufacturing facilities in Europe, except for those situated in Italy.
The basic characteristic is the characteristic Company.
