Purpose

The Maintenance IT process enables you to import support packages and single emergency corrections into your system landscape.

Prerequisites

You have installed your system landscape.

Process Flow

You ...

       1.      You plan and schedule changes to your system landscape. For support packages, this is done using the Support Package Stack Guide and Software Lifecycle Manager (part of usage type AS-Java); for implementing SAP Notes, this is done in Note Assistant (part of usage type AS-ABAP).

       2.      You download the required support packages/files or SAP Notes. For this, you either use the Support Package Stack Guide and Software Lifecycle Manager to download files from SAP Service Marketplace or you use Note Assistant to access the SAP Note System (OSS).

       3.      If you are implementing SAP Notes, you check with Note Assistant whether an SAP Note is applicable (that is, you check the validity, impact and the possible side-effects).

       4.      You use either the Support Package Stack Guide and SPAM/JSPAM (part of usage type AS-ABAP or AS-Java) or Note Assistant to help you prepare the patch procedure.

Example

For example, you can test the patch procedure in a test system and perform any prerequisite actions.

       5.      You use either the Support Package Stack Guide and SPAM/JSPAM or Note Assistant to perform the patch procedure or implement the SAP Note.

       6.      If you are implementing SAP Notes, you perform manual actions after the SAP Note installation.

       7.      You use defined test cases to test and validate your patched system.

Result

Your system landscape is patched.
