Purpose
You use this process to assign special versions to valid version combinations. By doing this, settings only need to be made once and become available to multiple version combinations.
Prerequisites
You have performed the following steps in Customizing for Consolidation:
Process Flow
Defining valid version combinations
When customizing the version combinations, you select the versions you want to use in SAP Consolidation.
If you use two or more characteristics with the role version, you define the combinations you want to work with. This way, you limit the number of valid combinations.
Later, you maintain the special versions for each value combination.
Example 1:
Here you have two characteristics for your versions:
You use both accounting principles for planning, but you use only U.S. GAAP for creating consolidated statements with the actual data. Therefore, you define the following three combinations (out of four possible combinations):
Example 2:

You define the following valid version combinations:

Assigning special versions to the valid version combinations
You specify the special version for each valid combination of versions.
The assignments of special versions attributes and hierarchy structure are made separately for each characteristic of the special versions.
You can create default settings for multiple version combinations under Special Versions ® context menu: Define Rules.

The system uses the predefined default of 100 for the special version for all version combinations. You can set up your own rules to change this default.

You can overwrite the values inherited from the rule with single values. To do this, you mark the symbol for inheritance
, choose Single Value in the context menu, and enter the desired special version.

You use the two version characteristics Data Category and Accounting Principles. You use the following permitted combinations:
You want to use the value 200 in all plan versions as the special version Data Collection, except for the combination Plan / U.S. GAAP, for which you want to use the value 210.
To do this, you create a rule for special version Data Collection as follows: Plan / * -> 200.
For the combination Plan / U.S. GAAP, you overwrite this rule with the value 210.
You can create a new special version by assigning a name.
