Event
Message
An event message is any form of transferring information from a data source to SAP Event Management (SAP EM) that involves information about actual expected events or unplanned incidents within the supply chain.
You can use event messages to transfer information about changes to a business object within the supply chain from an application system or from external sources to SAP EM.
An event message can contain data for several events.
You can send attachments (for example, a digital signature) with an event message to SAP EM.
Message Sources
You can send event messages from both internal and external data sources.
Examples of internal sources are:
· Application objects that have reached a specific status
· Event handlers that generate an event message for another event handler
Examples of external sources are:
· On-board computer
· Service provider uses the Internet or an automatic scanner to directly enter event message
An event message contains the following information:
· The identifiers (for example, tracking ID) that identify the objects that SAP EM is to track
· The event that has occurred
· The date, time, location, partner, measurement data, and additional information (for example, the shipment route) for the event
· One or more attachments, if required
· The URL for the tracking service provider’s Web page
For more information about using and defining a link to a tracking service provider’s URL, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for SCM under Event Management ® Event Messages, Status Queries, and Web Interface ® URL Templates for Tracking ID Providers.
You are expecting a delivery of car tires at 13:00. The service provider uses an on-board computer to report his or her departure to SAP EM at 10:00. SAP EM sends you an e-mail informing you that the service provider departed at 10:00 with your delivery.
