Reactions to and Actions for
Events
Reactions to events are pre-configured notification or follow-up options in SAP Event Management (SAP EM).

You specify that SAP EM is to send an e-mail to the shift manager, if a delay to a delivery is reported.
Actions in response to events are query options in SAP EM.

For a customer complaint that a delivery is not complete, you start a query to SAP EM. You use the query to check which service provider transported the delivery and whether this service provider has previously been unreliable.
You configure SAP EM in such a way that you:
· Receive a simple notification and can send event data to SAP EM
· Can enter your own event data
· Make a status query to SAP EM
· Have SAP EM automatically trigger a process in another system
· Option 1
Simple notification using the Alert Framework: For example, for the punctual arrival of a complete delivery at the customer, or for delays or damage (for example, by e-mail, fax).
· Option 2
Simple notification as for option 1 that includes an URL that the customer can use to search for the current process status.
· Option 1
¡ Simple notification: For example, for the availability of raw materials at the supplier, the punctual arrival at the factory of raw materials ordered for production, or for delays or damage.
¡ Own event message input: For example, for the start of production, end of putaway, or the departure of a service provider to the customer.
· Option 2
Simple notification as for option 1.
In addition, you can also query statuses.

· The quantities that your supplier has already manufactured for a manufacturing order.
· The quantity that you have already put away.
· How punctually your supplier has delivered your products.
· How much scrap there is for a product in production.
Your partners can transfer the data using an Internet portal, for example.
· Option 3
¡ The option to start a workflow or the Alert Framework for exceptions and unexpected business events.

A supplier cannot deliver a raw material on time because of a delay to a ship, for example. You have already agreed delivery times and prices with several alternative providers. The system displays this selection of alternative providers. Moreover, a list of alternative carriers is also available (for example, quicker, but more expensive truck transporters, or air shipment instead of sea shipment).
¡ Automatic update of the shipment status in the application system to Loaded using the event message Loading End that is sent to SAP EM.
· Option 1
¡ Simple notification about the punctual loading of a complete delivery at the producer, or about delays or damage (for example, by e-mail, fax).
¡ Own event message input: For example about the availability of raw materials or means of transport, or the loading start or arrival at the customer.
· Option 2
Simple notification as for option 1.
In addition, you can also query statuses.

· When the partner can start to load the delivery.
· Where the delivery currently is.
· When the delivery is expected to arrive at the customer.
Your partners can transfer the data using an Internet portal, for example.
· Option 3
¡ The option to start a workflow or the Alert Framework for exceptions and unexpected business events.

A truck cannot make its deliveries to individual customers on time because of a road accident. You have already agreed delivery times and prices with several alternative forwarding agents. The application system displays this selection of alternative forwarding agents. Moreover, a list of all customers and their required delivery times with a prioritization according to the importance of the customer is also available.
¡ Automatic update of the shipment status in the application system to Loaded using the event message Loading End that is sent to SAP EM.
You specify the reaction options in Customizing:
· Whether someone is notified if:
¡ An event is reported within the expected time (regular event)
¡ An event is reported earlier or later than expected (for example, an overdue event)
¡ An event is not reported
¡ An unexpected event is reported
· How the person is notified (for example, Alert Monitor, workflow, e-mail)
· Whether data from SAP EM is returned to the application system to trigger (using the rule set) activities (for example, a rescheduling)
· Whether different SAP EM activities should be triggered (by specifying the rule conditions in the rule set).
To define rule sets, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) forEvent Management ® Reactions to Event Messages ® Define Rule Sets.
The following figure shows an example of predefined reactions to events:

In this example, you have specified in SAP EM (using an appropriate rule set) that SAP EM:
· Notifies both your partner and your customer by e-mail when Production Start is reported
· Executes the following when the unexpected event Delay is reported:
¡ Notifies both your partner and your customer by e-mail
¡ Triggers the rescheduling of the arrival time in the application system
