You use this function to configure Business Context Viewer (BCV) content for standard use cases. The configuration wizard allows for the fast integration of information supplied by data providers into BCV. You input data that the configuration wizard can use to automatically create a search connector, query, and query view, or reuse existing ones.

Integration

After the configuration wizard has created the BCV objects, you can perform the following activities in the Configuration Center:

  • Display or extend the new BCV objects

  • Test whether information can be retrieved from the data provider using the new BCV objects

  • Assign the query view to a hierarchical view, overview or dashboard

Prerequisites

Features

The configuration wizard contains the following features:

  • Selection of Data Provider

You can use existing data providers for all data provision technologies that are supported for search connectors. For more information on these technologies, see Search Connector. If you do not have the authorization to maintain search connectors, you can use existing search connectors as data providers. In this case, the configuration wizard will only create a query and query view. If you do not have authorization to create a BCV query, the wizard allows you to select an existing query as the data provider, and input the query ID.

  • Selection of Input and Output Fields

You can choose which input fields of the data provider you want to use for data selection and which output fields you want to use for data presentation. The Configuration Wizard includes all fields by default. You can assign a meaning to each of the fields to allow for drill-downs.

    Note Note

The configuration wizard automatically selects fields required for your selected fields to work. For example, if you select a field of type Quantity, the Wizard will automatically select the corresponding Unit of Measure field.

    End of the note.
  • Definition of Data Presentation

The configuration wizard always defines a table presentation in the query view that contains all selected output fields. You can change the sequence of the table columns and specify the sort order of table entries. Additionally, you can ask the wizard to create a column chart, pie chart, or line chart in the query view. For more information, see Chart Types in BCV.

    Note Note

In the configuration wizard, you can only set the most commonly used properties of the chart. For example, you cannot set start or end values, color palettes, or define more than one value axis. If you want to define these properties or create additional data presentations, you can extend the query view in the Configuration Center after the wizard has finished.

    End of the note.
  • Reuse of Existing BCV Objects

The configuration wizard checks whether there are existing BCV objects that match objects about to be created. If these objects exist, you can decide whether the wizard should reuse them or create new objects. You can choose an existing object for reuse in the value help of the object identifier fields of the Define General Data step of the Wizard.

    Note Note

To avoid duplication, you should reuse existing objects if possible (especially search connectors and queries). If you intend to extend the BCV objects after they are created, you should not reuse existing objects to prevent unintentional side effects.

    End of the note.
