Function documentation Testing Cache Connectivity  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You use this function to test whether cache connectivity is functioning correctly if problems arise during the update of the runtime cache.

For more information about the runtime cache, see Cache Notifications and SAP Note 780747.

Prerequisites

You have started the Runtime Workbench and are in Component Monitoring.

Features

You use this function to check whether both steps for updating the runtime cache are functioning correctly:

Notification of the components with cache data (consumers) using a cache refresh

Retrieval and update of cache data by the consumer

In this procedure, a change list with a test object is created in the Integration Repository and released, and the Integration Directory is notified.

The Integration Directory in turn notifies the relevant consumers, who then retrieve the test data and update their runtime cache accordingly.

Activities

In Component Monitoring, choose Display and then Cache Connectivity Test.

The system displays a separate window in which you perform the test. If no previous tests have been performed, the system displays a corresponding message. Otherwise, the system shows when and by whom the last test run was started, together with the result of this test.

To start a new test run, choose Start Test.

The system displays the first results of the test run. Since the whole test takes some time, you can update the displayed results if necessary.

To update the displayed results, choose Refresh Display.

The overall result for each component is displayed as a green, yellow, red, or gray symbol. A green symbol is only displayed if both update steps for the runtime cache were successful, that is, they both have a green symbol.

Symbols and Their Meaning

Color of Symbol

Meaning

Green

Individual steps: Notification or retrieval successful.

Overall result: Runtime cache updated successfully.

Yellow

Individual steps: Notification or retrieval still in progress, or data not retrieved because notification failed.

Overall result: No test result available yet for component; refresh display.

Red

Notification or retrieval of data failed.

Gray

Consumer is new; no information available yet about this consumer.

To display the individual results for each component, click the component.

The results are displayed as a symbol, which can be red, yellow, or green, and an explanatory short text. Red individual results also have a long text, which you can display by choosing Display Detailed Error Message.
