Procedure

Performing the Minimal Configuration Tasks

After the completion of the installation, you need to carry out the basic configuration tasks in order to activate the basic functions within the system. The configuration tasks described here must be carried out in order to prepare the system for users. For more information, see Basic Configuration for Knowledge Management .

Administering the Knowledge Management System

System administration task area comprises system configuration and monitoring, logging, and tracing. System configuration contains tasks such as setting up repositories, creating properties, and modifying the user interface. The tools in the monitoring, logging, and tracing task area help you to recognize and remove incorrect configuration settings and critical system statuses.

You carry out these tasks in the Configuration iView. To call up the Configuration iView, choose System Administration → System Configuration → Knowledge Management → Content Management. For more information, see System Administration .

Administering Content

Content administration task area enables access to the following content:

  • Repositories, folders, and documents that are integrated in KM
  • KM-specific portal content such as iViews and worksets

You find this content in the top-level navigation area of the portal under Content Administration. For more information, see Content Administration .

Archiving Knowledge Management and Collaboration (KMC) Data

The KMC data that is no longer needed in everyday business processes should be moved out of the KM repositories in order to reduce costs and to improve performance and system availability. Simply deleting this data is often not a valid option due to legal data retention requirements. This means that the data has to be removed from the KM repositories and stored in such a way that it is always accessible for reading if necessary. For this purpose, SAP provides the KMC archiving solution. For more information, see Archiving Knowledge Management and Collaboration Data .

Ensuring Knowledge Management Security

Knowledge Management allows access to company-internal personal data, information, and documents that may not be equally accessible to all portal users. Settings for data security prevent unauthorized access and data manipulation. For detailed information about user administration, authentication, authorizations, network and communication security, data storage security, and more, see Knowledge Management Security Guide .

Note

We recommend that you use the general information provided in the Knowledge Management security guide to create a handbook for daily use that corresponds to your company-specific requirements for production operations.
