Use

You can evaluate SAP NetWeaver BW data by using the SAP BusinessObjects products. The following section provides an overview of SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, which forms part of the OLAP edition and the Microsoft Office edition.

SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for Microsoft Office

SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, Edition for Microsoft Office is an add-in for Microsoft Office. This add-in is used for multidimensional analysis of OLAP sources in Microsoft Excel, application design of workbooks in Microsoft Excel and creating intuitive BI presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint.

In the Microsoft Office Edition, you can use SAP BEx queries, query views and InfoProviders from SAP NetWeaver BW as data sources. Data is displayed in crosstabs in the workbook. You can insert more than one crosstab (with data from different sources and systems) into a workbook.

You can refine your analysis by using conditioned formatting, filters, prompts, calculations and hierarchy displays. In addition, you can add diagrams to your analysis. If you want to keep your navigation status, you can save the status as an analysis view. This means that other users can reuse your analysis.

If you want a workbook with a more complex design, the Edition for Microsoft Office provides you with a range of special functions in Microsoft Excel that enable you to access the data and metadata of connected BW systems. You also have a range of API functions at your disposal that you can use to filter data and set BW variable values in Visual Basic Editor.

You can also plan business data on the basis of the current data in your data source. You can enter the planning data either manually or automatically using the planning functions and planning sequences in SAP NetWeaver BW integrated planning.

Analysis, Edition for Microsoft Office, must be installed on your local computer. You can create a connection to SAP NetWeaver BW directly or by using SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence (if you want to include data sources). Normally you use SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence to save workbooks and make them available to other users in the productive environment. In test systems however, you can also create a direct connection to the BW system. Using SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence allows you to save your work folders and presentations in a central management system and to open the analysis view in other applications, like Crystal Reports or Analysis, Edition for OLAP.

SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, Edition for OLAP

SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, Edition for OLAP, is a tool for analyzing OLAP data on the Web.

The BW data is displayed as crosstabs and diagrams in the analysis window. Create a workspace, add crosstab objects and diagram objects to the analysis window, connect these objects using OLAP data sources and interactively analyze the data.

The OLAP Edition allows you to simultaneously display data from different cubes and providers. You display sales data from a Microsoft Analysis service cube and financial data from an SAP NetWeaver BW cube in the same worksheet for example.

You can open Analysis, Edition for OLAP from the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence BI Launchpad in a Web browser. You need to have Analysis, Edition for OLAP installed on an SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence system. You do not need to install Advanced Analysis, Edition for OLAP on your local computer.
