The SAP Management Console perspective in the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (Developer Studio) includes context menus that offer a number of useful functions.

Context Menus

The context menus enable you to start, stop and restart individual processes, instances or the whole system. You can also configure the settings of the SAP Management Console (SAP MC).

The context menus differ depending on the item that is selected in the navigation pane or in the result pane. The following table explains some of the main context menu options:

Add All Instances

Displays all instances of the selected SAP system.

Removes the selected SAP system or instance from the SAP MC view configuration.

Restart

Restarts the selected system or instance.

Show Version Information

Displays version information about the most important executables.

Displays system environment information.

Restart Service

Restarts the sapstartsrv service of the selected instance.

Displays all profile parameters of the selected instance.

Show Start Profile

Displays the start profile of the selected instance.

Show Trace File

Displays the sapstartsrv trace file.

Analyze Log Files

Displays log records filtered by severity and time.

Show Developer Trace

Displays the developer trace files of the selected process.

Increase/Decrease trace level

Increases or decreases the developer trace level of the selected process

Shutdown

Stops the selected process (signal INT)

Telnet

Opens a Telnet session for the AS Java. More information: Administration Using Telnet

Start/Stop Process

Starts or stops the selected AS Java process

Process Table entry

Enable/Disable Process

Enables or disables an AS Java process.

Process Table entry

Start Debug Session

Enables Java Virtual Machine (JVM) debugging for the server processes.

Stop Debug Session

Disables the debug mode, or stops the debug session if started.

Dump Stack

Dumps the Java stack trace for the selected server process.

Settings
  • You have to manually configure the path to the executable file of the Telnet client that you want to use to administer AS Java. To do so, in the <user_home> directory of the operation system, open the .sapmc file with a text editor, and enter the relevant path.

    Caution

    Do not rename the .sapmc file.

  • You can configure the SAP MC settings in accordance with your requirements. In the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio, choose Start of the navigation path Window Next navigation step Preferences End of the navigation path. On the Preferences screen, choose SAP Management Console .

    The following table explains the available options:

    Option

    Meaning

    Use HTTPS/Use HTTP

    Set the communication protocol between the SAP MC and the application server.

    Note

    To use HTTPS, you first need to set up Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for the monitored SAP instances. More information about configuring the AS Java for supporting SSL: Network and Transport Layer Security in the Security Guide.

    Logon always the same user

    Define whether the SAP MC will log on always with the same user for a system.

    Automatic Update

    Activate the automatic update of the information about the status of the system.

    Update Interval (seconds)

    Set the period for the automatic update of the system status information.

    Interface Type

    Display the interface type. The interface type is always soap .
