Use

This section contains information about accessibility aspects when working with the SAP Business Explorer analysis tools. It is targeted both at users who use supporting technologies and users who do not but require complete keyboard access. SAP Business Explorer provides tools for web-based analysis (BEx Web Applications) and Microsoft Excel-based analysis (BEx Analyzer). Certain SAP Business Explorer accessibility functions are only available in accessible mode.

Configuring the Accessibility Mode

To work with BEx Web applications, activate the accessibility functions in the user profile in the portal, as described under Accessibility in the Portal. If you work with BEx Analyzer, make the corresponding settings in the SAP configuration, as described under Accessibility for SAP GUI for WindowsAccessibility in the SAP GUI for Windows.

BEx Analyzer

To analyze data with BEx Analyzer, you insert the data into workbooks. The following is a description of how accessibility is ensured for BEx Analyzer functions:

  • When opening a workbook, you can select the functions in the Open dialog or the context menu with the keyboard. An example of this is making selections in the search fields (Search, History, Favorites, Roles ), Refresh, Delete and Add to Favorites.

    More information: Open

  • You can modify the hierarchy icons display so that the characters + und - are displayed instead of the icon. Hierarchies can then be expanded and collapsed using the corresponding context menu entry for the cell. To change the hierarchy icon display, make the following settings:

    1. Switch to design mode.

    2. Choose Properties of the Analysis Table.

    3. Choose the required display under Display Icons for Hierarchies.

    4. Choose OK and switch back to analysis mode.

  • SAP provides a standard workbook that is used a template for analysis. If you want to use a different workbook as the default, you can set it in the Global Settings dialog.

    More information: Global Settings

  • The SAP standard workbook contains Filter and Information pushbutton. Users can use these to show and hide these areas. To be able to use these functions via the keyboard, select the Standard Workbook toolbar from the context menu. Note that you can only select this toolbar in accessibility mode. To show and hide the Filter and Information areas, you need to use the following key combinations:

    • Filter: ALT+F

    • Information: ALT+I

  • In the Select Filter Value dialog, you can configure complex filter conditions. Under Chosen Selection, you can access the functions using the context menu for the selected values. You can perform other functions from the dialog using the following key combinations:

    • Display key/text: CTRL+SHIFT+P

    • Settings: CTRL+SHIFT+E

    • Move to the beginning CTRL+SHIFT+T

    • Move up: CTRL+SHIFT+U

    • Move down: CTRL+SHIFT+N

    • Move to the end: CTRL+SHIFT+L

    More information: Selecting Filter Values

  • When you use a query with variables, you can edit the variables in the Selecting Values for Variables dialog box. The following key combinations are available to help you use the functions in the variables dialog box:

    • Save variant: CTRL+S

    • Save as new variant: CTRL+A

    • Deleting variants: CTRL+D

    • Attributes: CTRL+P

    • Display Object Name as: CTRL+R

    • Personalize Variables: CTRL+E

More information: Using Variables in BEx Analyzer

  • You can select the context menu for any cell in a workbook using the menu. To do this, select a cell and choose Start of the navigation path BEx Analyzer Next navigation step Context Menu for Selected Cell End of the navigation path.

BEx Web Applications

BEx Web Applications are optimized for display with assistive technology. Accessibility cannot be achieved without using screen readers.

The following settings are provided for unsighted and partially sighted users:

  • SAP provides two high contrast style sheets (high contrast and high contrast black) that you can select in Web Application Designer in the Settings for your Template.

  • You can change the font size in your browser settings, as the text is formatted using relative font sizes. When modifying your style sheets, remember to keep this.

  • If you use Web item Ticker, make sure that the speed setting is appropriate.

  • Displaying data in the form of charts and maps can cause problems for unsighted and partially sighted users. In accessible mode, a tab page is automatically added whenever charts and maps are used. The data is displayed here as a table. When data is exported, only the currently visible tab page is exported. If you display and distribute precalculated documents in BEx Broadcaster, the additional table is inserted into the chart or map item and grouped to an item. During export, all displays are visible.

Take note of the following when using screen readers:

Multidimensional tables are a special type of table. Whereas flat tables distinguish between headers and table entries, the main distinction for multidimensional tables is between key figures and characteristics. The system uses the data cell to show the user the relationship between data cells and the corresponding characteristic cells. The following multidimensional table shows you the corresponding references (lost deals, prices, and internet) for a data cell ($59,061).
