Increasing Network Security with SAProuter

Use

SAProuter provides many functions designed to increase security, such as using SNC - Secure Network Communication.

SAProuter allows you to strengthen your firewall host against unwanted connections from outside, if you administrate it appropriately.

Prerequisites

You have a network and a firewall. An SAProuter is running on the firewall host.

Procedure

The SAProuter running on your firewall host should be configured to allow the following:

Only the NI protocol (SAP Protocol) is accepted from outside. To do this, use the S entries. If you want to explicitly allow a native TCP/IP connection for a particular port, you can do this using a P entry.

An unlimited number of SAProuters cannot act as intermediate stations downstream or upstream from this SAProuter in a route; you can stipulate the permitted number using the Pv,n entries (see Creating a Route Permission Table).

Under UNIX, the SAProuter can also be started using Option -S <service> on a port reserved for root.
