Use

If you want to set a link to an object in a KM repository in a document, for example, an Office file, you could use the target URL to date. The target URL contains the complete path to the object in the repository and can be quite long, depending on the depth of the folder structure.

As of this release, objects in KM repositories also have a short ID. The short ID does not change if you move an object from one KM folder to another.

The GUID repository manager is used system-internally to manage short IDs that are delivered by the URI mapper service.

In Knowledge Management, RIDs (resource identifiers) for objects can be up to 2048 characters long. For applications that use shorter character lengths of up to 256 characters, for example, MICROSOFT Office, the URI mapper service can provide a shortened GUID (globally unique identifier). This is called the short ID on the user interface.

You can find the short ID in the Details dialog box at Settings ® Properties® Access Paths.

If an application launches a short ID, the GUID repository manager automatically provides a link to the associated object.

For more information, see GUID Repository Manager and Setting Links in Documents To Objects in KM Folders.

Effects on Customizing

A preconfigured GUID repository manager is part of the standard delivery. You do not need to make manual configuration changes.
