You can use a desktop client to make KM folders available in Windows as network drives. Communication with the server is done using the WebDAV protocol.
Using an icon in the system area of the Windows task bar, users can open the personalization dialog for the portal drive. They can assign KM folders to Windows network drive letters there. Alternatively, administrators can make the assignment of KM folders to network drive letters by means of remote configuration.
Users can then work with documents in KM repositories in the same way as they work on any other Windows network drives.
You can select files as Always available offline. Copies of these files are retained in a cache on the local PC. If you temporarily have no connection to the company network, you can display and edit the files offline. When you log on to the company network again, the system synchronizes the files.
In addition, the portal drive provides fundamental functions for collaborative work on documents through the context menu in Windows Explorer:
● Shared use
You can give other users permissions for documents and folders.
● Locking Documents
When you edit a document online, the system locks the document in question. For example, if you intend to work on a document offline, you can lock it manually.
● Versioning
You can display a version history for documents and save previous versions under a different name.
For more information, see
Portal Drive.
For the installation of the desktop client on user PCs, an installation program is available on SAP Service Marketplace. Once you have installed the client on the user PCs, you can use functions for automatically importing updates and for remote configuration of client settings.
For more information, see
Configuration of the
Portal Drive.
