The user interfaces for maintaining InfoCubes, DataStore objects, MultiProviders, and InfoObject Catalogs have been standardized for SAP NetWeaver 7.0. The maintenance screen for these objects is structured like the old DataStore object maintenance screen. The screen is divided; the InfoObjects that can be transferred are displayed in a tree structure in the left-hand area of the screen and can be transferred to the right-hand area of the screen using drag and drop.

You access object maintenance as before in the Modeling area of the Data Warehousing Workbench.

Note: In the new Data Warehousing Workbench it is possible to jump to the object maintenance of a second object whilst processing another object in parallel. For more information about this, see the release notes for the Data Warehousing Workbench (Changed).

Processing BI objects:

In the left-hand area of the screen there is a template from which you can copy InfoObjects and dimensions into the maintenance object. The template object is initially empty and you can fill it, as appropriate, using the buttons.

InfoObjects (and entire dimensions if you are working with InfoCubes and MultiProviders) can be copied to the maintenance object using drag and drop.

You access detailed functions either in the menu (for example, the storage parameters of an InfoCube) or in the context menu of the respective InfoObject or dimension.

Changes to the old maintenance UI:

Dimensions of InfoCubes are no longer maintained in a separate dialog box. Instead, you create dimensions in the context menu of the maintenance object before transferring the InfoObjects. InfoObjects can subsequently be included in the correct dimension using drag and drop.

In the new InfoCube maintenance, it is no longer possible to create InfoObjects. Create the required InfoObjects in InfoObject maintenance. You can then assign them to the dimensions of the InfoCube.

InfoObjects can be moved between dimensions, as long as they are not already contained in the active version of the InfoCube.

You can select navigation attributes directly in the relevant folder of the object tree.

You identify the InfoObjects in the MultiProvider either in the context menu of the InfoObject or by using the appropriate buttons. To provide a clearer overview, assignments are made on a step-by-step basis for an individual InfoObject and scroll buttons are available which allow you to navigate through the complete InfoObject list.

Tips:

To create a BI object that is “similar“ to another object, you can either specify a template object on the create screen (if the objects are of the same type), or select the corresponding template on the maintenance screen and copy using drag and drop.

For example, this enables you to transfer all the dimensions of an InfoCubes into a MultiProvider in one step.

In the main folder of the object (dimensions or key figures or key fields or data fields) you can display and maintain InfoObject properties in one clear and complete list.

The advantage of the new maintenance interface is that it allows BI objects to be presented in one overall view whilst offering you the option to focus on a particular area by expanding or collapsing the corresponding folder in the tree.
