When you create a Web service DataSource, the system assigns technical names to the Web service and the related objects when the Web service DataSource is generated. These technical names are assigned in the generation namespace of the DataSource. When the DataSource is transported, these names may change since the names are generated generically in the target system.

With SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS 8, you can define a fixed name for the Web service. You do this in DataSource maintenance. This name is also used for the related objects; the function group, function module and virtual interface. The technical name of the objects consists of a generation prefix and the name that you defined.

By assigning a fixed name you ensure that the object names do not change when the objects are transported to a target system. For example, if you have used the technical name of the Web service object in the programming of your application, this name is retained.
