With SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS 07, the Information Lifecycle Management solution has been enhanced.

The data archiving process allows you to use ADK-based archiving or near-line storage.

The data archiving process is a stand-alone TLOGO object with a direct assignment to an InfoProvider. It contains all the metadata that is required for data archiving. Depending on how the archiving process is modeled, an archiving object and/or a connection to near-line storage is generated as a result of the data archiving process.

Depending on how the data archiving process is defined, you can start archiving either from archive administration (transaction SARA) or in process chain maintenance by choosing the new process type Archive Data from an InfoProvider.

You can access the data stored in near-line storage in a query. In the query properties, set the Read Near-Line Storage As Well indicator.

Interfaces are available for third-party tools for connecting near-line storage to the BI system.

Constraints

●      You are currently not able to load archived data back into the InfoProvider.

●      You cannot access archived data in the staging process.

●      Currently only time slice archiving is available when you define the data archiving process.

●      The Read Near-Line Storage As Well indicator cannot be set in the Query Designer. You have to use the query monitor for this purpose.

●      With InfoCubes, you cannot protect archived data areas when you load new data into the InfoProvider. Currently checks are only performed when loading data into a DataStore object.

Effects on Existing Data

You can continue to use archiving objects that you created in InfoCube or DataStore object maintenance. However, we recommend that you use the new data archiving process with new objects.
