Use

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search is a search solution providing unified, comprehensive, and secure real-time access to enterprise data and information from within and outside of a company.

The search returns both structured data (business objects) and unstructured data (HTML files, presentations, documents) from SAP systems and other search providers. The search results are checked for authorization and allow direct access to associated applications and actions.

Delivery

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search requires its own licence which has to be purchased separately from the SAP NetWeaver technology platform.

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search is delivered as an appliance on a dedicated 64–bit Linux system in cooperation with SAP hardware partners. The software is preinstalled and preconfigured on the delivered hardware. No other software must be installed on the Enterprise Search hardware.

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search is also defined as an IT Scenario: IT Scenario Enterprise Search.

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search comes with predefined templates for connecting search providers quickly to Enterprise Search. For a complete list of the delivered templates, see Search Object Connector Templates.

User Interface

The Search UI is based on Java WebDynPro and is prepared for other channels. The following languages are supported in this release:

      English

      German

      French

Enterprise Search supports searching data in all languages supported by Search and Classification (TREX). For a list of these languages, see Supported Languages.

The Search UI offers the following main functions:

Searching with keywords and search categories

Refinement and filtering of search results

Navigation to related information within the Search UI

Direct navigation into the associated applications

Configurable areas for displaying the search results

Extension Capabilities

      Template creation

Most connectors described above are based on connector templates which can be instantiated and thus can be used as basis for new connectors.

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search allows you to create your own templates so that you can standardize the connection of additional search objects of a specific type.

      BO modeling

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search provides the tools to model search access to additional ERP and R/3 business objects, even if the objects contain customer-specific modifications.

      WSDL

Web services that comply to WSDL, provided internally or externally, can be connected for two different purposes:

¡        Serve as an additional search provider

¡        Provide related information to a previous search result
