Background documentation DataSource  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Description

As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0, a new object concept is available for DataSources (object type R3TR ISFS), which up until now were called DataSource replicates in the BI system in the case of SAP source systems. This new object concept is used together with the modified object concepts in the data flow and the process design (transformation, InfoPackage for loading into the PSA, data transfer processes for distributing data within BI). The object type for a DataSource from the new concept - subsequently called DataSource - is R3TR RSDS.

If your dataflow is modeled using objects that are based on the old concept (3.x InfoSources, 3.x transfer rules, 3.x update rules) and the process design is built on these objects, you can continue to work with 3.x DataSources when transferring data into BI from a source system.

General Practices with Emulation and Migration

If you want to migrate an existing data flow, emulate the DataSource first to use transformations to model the data flow and then to test it. You can then migrate the 3.x DataSource to a DataSource and benefit from the new concepts in your scenario.
