Launching the iView Wizard and First
Steps
iView wizards enable you to create new iViews based on existing iView templates or portal components from PAR files (portal archives).
SAP Enterprise Portal provides a number of iView wizards, each one adapted to the type of iView you are creating. The wizards provide step-by-step guidance, making sure you provide all the crucial pieces of information needed to generate the iView.
At the end of the creation process, the wizard processes the information you provided and generates an iView; you may edit the iView properties to modify or fine-tune your choices.
This topic provides general information on how to invoke the iView wizards and how to complete the first steps of the wizards that are generic to all iView types. For specific information on using the wizards for specific iView types, see the following:

1. Launch the Portal Content Studio. See Launching the Portal Content Studio.
2. In the Portal Catalog, do one of the following:
To create an iView based on… |
Do… |
Portal component |
... 1. To launch the iView Wizard, right-click the folder in which you want to create the iView, and then in the context menu that appears, choose New from PAR ® iView. 2. In the first step of the wizard, choose the portal archive that contains the portal component you want to base the new iView on. 3. In the second step, a list of portal components contained in the portal archive is displayed. Choose a portal component. |
iView template |
... 1. To launch the iView Wizard, right-click the folder in which you want to create the iView, and then in the context menu that appears, choose New ® iView. 2. In the first step of the wizard, choose the iView template you want to base the new iView on. |

You have access only to the portal components and templates for which you have been granted permission.

Additional Information |
iView Name |
This field automatically displays the same name as that of the component that you choose in the previous step. If you want to change the name, overwrite the name that appears. |
This is a display name, the name that appears in the Portal Catalog, and in any form, dialog box, and window that displays a list of iViews. |
iView ID |
Enter a unique identifier for the iView. |
This is the identifier registered in the PCD. This name appears within the portal administrator environment. The iView ID may include alphanumeric characters, underscores (_), dashes (-), percent signs (%), tilde (~) and parentheses. It may not include other special characters or spaces. The iView ID may include up to 100 characters. |
iView ID Prefix |
Enter a prefix for the iView name. |
If you want all your iViews to follow a specific naming convention, making them easier to locate, you can add a uniform prefix to each system you create. For more information, see Object IDs and Namespace Prefixes. |
Master Language |
Choose the master language for metadata defined in the new iView. |
The master language is the original language in which the properties of the object are generated and maintained. When creating content objects, it is important to decide on a master language that is neutral for the users in your environment, and to consider using that language consistently as your initial maintenance language. Typically, when creating content packages, for example assigning iViews to pages, you should use objects defined with the same master language. This property cannot be changed once the wizard creates the object. |
Description |
Enter a brief description of the iView. |
This is an optional description of the system. |
4. Choose Next to continue. From this point on, the wizard screens vary according the template or portal component you selected.
5. Follow the instructions in each step to complete the wizard. An asterisk indicates mandatory fields.
6. In the Summary Details step, do the following:
a. Review the options you selected for the new iView. To make changes, choose Back until you return to the appropriate screen.
b. If you want the object to automatically open in its editor when you click Finish, choose Open for editing when wizard completes.
7. Choose Finish to create the object.
8. Choose your next step:
a. If you want the object to open automatically in the iView Editor when you click OK, choose Open the object for editing.
b. If you want to create a new object based on the same template you selected previously, choose Restart the wizard to create a new object using the same template.
c. If you neither want to open the editor nor restart the wizard when you click OK, choose Close the wizard.
9. Click OK.
Upon completing the wizard, an iView is created in the folder from which you launched the iView wizard.
The initial properties and property values defined in the new iView are a result of selections you made in the wizard and properties inherited from the template or portal component upon which you based the iView.
By default, all new iViews are defined as non-template objects. To define an iView as a template, open it in the Property Editor, and change the value of the Object is a Template property to true. See Defining Property Values.
For more information on editing an iView, see Editing iView Properties.
