Saving Query Variants
A query variant is a query for which the variable values have already been selected. You can also use the variants for opening the query in the online display and for background processing.
You have defined a query that contains at least one variable that is ready for input.
...
1. Open the query with the variables that are ready for input.
2. You get to the dialog window for entering variables. Select a variable value.
3.
From
the dialog box toolbar, choose
(Save as
Variant). A
new dialog box appears.
4. Enter a name and a short description (Description) for the variant. Choose whether
¡ The variants only need to be used for the background processing (then the variant is no longer available for the online display)
¡ You want to protect the variants (then you can only change the variants)
¡ The variants only need to be displayed in the catalog

Hierarchy node variables always have two entries; the hierarchy node name and the hierarchy characteristic (for example, 0HIERNODE for text nodes).
5. Save your entries.
The query variant can now be
· called up when you next open the query

You can call up a created variant for a query using the dialog box for the entry of variables (see step two in the above procedure):

(Get Variant). You arrive at a dialog box in
which you see the list of saved variants for this query.
· Select a variant from the list and execute it.
· Assigned to a setting for background printing or exception reporting in background processing.
