Defining the Installation Sequence
(Optional)
With an installation sequence you can define the order in which mobile components are installed on the mobile devices. The installation sequence is a separate application that controls the installation on the mobile device. The definition of an installation sequence is especially important for the first installation of a mobile device.
You define the installation sequence with the Mobile Component Descriptor Editor (MCD Editor). You can define mobile components for which there is already a Mobile Component Descriptor (MCD). You cannot specify any other installation sequences.
Once you have defined the installation sequence, you assign it to a role or a user like a mobile component.
Note the following rules for defining and assigning the installation sequence:
● You can define one installation sequence only for each mobile device.
● The installation sequence can only contain one version of a mobile component.
● If one of the components referenced in the installation sequence is already installed on a mobile device, the installation sequence cannot be assigned to this device.
You cannot change installation sequences that are already being used. When you cancel the assignment of an installation sequence to a device, the applications installed with the installation sequence are not deleted from the mobile device.

You can only delete an installation sequence if it is no longer assigned to any users. If you cannot delete the assignment because the mobile device is no longer used, delete the user data and the mobile device data first (see Deleting Server Data for Mobile Devices and Users).
There must already be an MCD for each mobile component that you want to define in the installation sequence.
...
1. Start the transaction MCD.
2. Enter a name and version for the installation sequence.
3. Choose Create MCD.
4. Enter a description.
5. Choose INSTALL_SEQUENCE as the component type.
6. Click the Link tab page.
7. If requested to do so, choose the runtime environment.
8. On the Link tab page, click Add Link to add the mobile components you want to include in the installation sequence.
9. In the Installation Sequence column, enter the order in which the mobile components should be installed on the mobile device.
10. If required, enter the framework to be installed on the Framework tab page so that the installation sequence can be included in the deployment.
11. Save your entries.
The MCD for the installation sequence is now displayed in the Web Console.
You must then assign the installation sequence to the users (see Assignment of Mobile Components to Users).
If you assign the installation sequence with a role, note the following:
● All the applications contained in the installation sequence must be defined as defaults for the role.
● The role must contain all components.
If you assign the installation sequence to a single user, the referenced components are also automatically assigned to the user.

An installation sequence cannot contain another installation sequence.

If an Installation Sequence(IS) is un-assigned from a user or role, only the IS assignment is removed; not its dependent application assignments. On the mobile device, only the installation sequence is uninstalled, not its dependent applications.
