Use

Currency translation allows you to translate key figures with currency field that are present in the source system with different currencies to a standard currency in the BW system, for example the company currency. Another application is the currency difference report, where you can compare the actual exchange rate with the exchange rates that were valid on the posting date, thus determining the effect of changes in the exchange rates. See also, Scenarios for Currency Translation.

Features

This function enables the translation of posted data records from the source currency into a target currency, or by repeated translation into different target currencies. It is based on the standard SAP functionality for currency translation.

Currency translation is based on Currency Translation Types. The business transaction rules of the translation are established with the currency translation type. It is then a combination of various parameters (source and target currency, exchange rate type, time base of conversion) that determines how the exchange rate determination for the translation is implemented. See also Currency Translation Type

Integration

The currency translation type is defined for future use and is available for currency translation in the update rules for InfoCubes and in Business Explorer:

In the update rules for InfoCubes, for each key figure or each data field, you can specify whether currency translation should be performed during updating. For special cases, there is the possibility of performing a currency translation in the user-defined routines in the transfer and in the update rules.

In the Business Explorer you can:

...

       1.      Establish a currency translation in the query definition.

       2.      Translate currencies for the query runtime. Here, however, translation is more limited translation than in the query definition.
