Definition

The room type (public, restricted, or private) controls the behavior of a room for the following points:

·        Registration as a room member

User registration comprises adding the user to the member list for the room and assigning at least one room role.
Depending on the room type concerned, either the room owner registers members or registration is done automatically.

·        Ability to enter a room in the room directory

Depending on the room type concerned, portal users can only enter a room once they have been specifically registered as a member (invited or permitted portal user) or by means of automatic registration.

The graphic below illustrates the member registration options and room entry for the three types of rooms. For a detailed list of the special features of each room type, see the table below.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Structure

When you create a room, it is uniquely assigned to one room type. The room type controls the room behavior as follows:

In My Rooms for members

In My Rooms for members

Company-wide collaboration in teams or project groups

In Public Rooms
for all users (irrespective of membership)

Note

Public pages in a room, which all portal users can view, make particular sense in restricted rooms.
