Background documentation Configuration of Systems for Remote Monitoring (DB2 UDB for UNIX and Windows) Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

To be able to use the functions offered in the DBA Cockpit for monitoring remote systems, you have to configure those systems in the DBA Cockpit.

You can access the Configuration: System Administration screen by calling transaction DB6COCKPIT and choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Configuration. A list of all monitored systems is displayed with an icon showing the current status of a system. You can change the status of a system by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying textStop or This graphic is explained in the accompanying textGo.

Recommendation

In case of severe errors, we recommend that you disable your system to avoid running into problems at the next start of the DBA Cockpit. After you have investigated and corrected the error, you have to enable your system again.

Normally, when you start the DBA Cockpit, the local system is set as default system. To change this setting, select a system from the list and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Default System.

Note

This setting is only related to the user that is logged on to the system and not system-related.

You can use the following methods to monitor a system remotely:

·        Using an RFC connection

In this case, you have to assign an RFC connection to your system. For more information, see Configuring Systems for Remote Monitoring Using RFC.

·        Using remote database connections

This method is based on additional connections to databases that are cataloged with DB2 functions in the database instance of the local system. For more information, see Configuring Systems for Remote Monitoring Using Remote Database Connections.
