Procedure documentation Including ODS Objects in Process Chains Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

If you want to automatically load data into an ODS object, as well as automatically activate or possibly update data, you can include these application processes in the procedure for a process chain.

We especially recommend using process chains when using ODS objects. In this way you ensure that the activation and update processes are begun when the preceding process is complete.

Prerequisites

You have already created an InfoPackage for loading data into your ODS object.

Procedure

You can create your process chain from the InfoPackage maintenance by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Process Chain Maintenance. They are then run in steps when the process chain is created.

Or call up the process chain maintenance directly and proceed as described.

...

       1.      Call up the process chain maintenance. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Process Chain Maintenance from the Administrator Workbench toolbar. The Process Chain Maintenance Planning View screen appears.

       2.      In the left-hand screen area of the required This graphic is explained in the accompanying text display component, navigate to the process chain in which you want to insert the ODS object. Double-click to select it. The system displays the process chain plan view in the right-hand side of the screen.

If no suitable process chain is available, you need to create a new process chain. You can find additional information under Creating a Process Chain.

       3.      In order to insert the activities around the ODS object as processes, select This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Process Types on the left-hand area of the screen. The system now displays the process categories available.

       5.      Use Drag&Drop to insert the application type This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Activate ODS Object Data into the process chain. The dialog box for inserting a process variant appears.

       6.      Create a process variant and confirm your entries. An additional dialog box appears.

       7.      Use the input help to select your InfoPackage that is used to load the data into your ODS object. Confirm your entries. The processes This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Load Data and This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Activate ODS Object Data are inserted together into your process chain.

       8.      In the process category This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Loading Process and Postprocessing, choose the application process type This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Update ODS Object Data (Further Processing), and insert it into your process chain by using Drag&Drop. The dialog box for inserting a process variant appears.

       9.      Create a process variant and confirm your entries. An additional dialog box appears.

   10.      Use the input help to select your InfoPackage that is used to load the data from your ODS object into the connected data target. Confirm your entries. The Update ODS Object Data (Further Processing) process is inserted into your process chain.

   11.      If you now activate the connection between the ODS object data and drag it into the further processing, then you can select the conditions under which the further processing needs to be triggered.

Example

The following graphic illustrates an example of how a process chain is used to load data into an ODS object. The activation process makes the data available for reporting and enables the data to be updated into other data targets.
