User Guide
This user guide explains the Collaboration capabilities of SAP NetWeaver.
Collaboration allows you to communicate and cooperate with other users across time zones and geographical locations irrespective of your organizational function. You are supported in this by functions and services that are depicted and explained in the graphic below.

Collaboration includes the following functions:

Description |
Launching services |
According to the services configuration that your administrator has carried out, you can launch collaboration services in the portal in the following places: ● In the Collaboration Launch Pad (CLP), which is launched in the portal header, you can manage your personal contacts (portal users and user groups) and launch the collaboration services provided. ● In the Room Member List, you can launch the same services as in the CLP to collaborate with the other members (default setting). ● In iViews of the Collaboration and Knowledge Management components that display user names, you can launch collaboration services through the context menu for the user name. ● On the user interface of the User Details iView, there are services that you can launch directly. |
Using rooms for collaboration |
You can create, enter, and edit rooms for collaboration. A room is a virtual working environment in the portal. Members of teams can use rooms to work with teams and project groups across time zones and regardless of geographical location. Every member of a room has access to shared context-specific applications and information. Depending on the room purpose, you choose the corresponding room type. The room type controls the room behavior and portal users' access to the room. Through the room directory, you receive access to all rooms that you are already a member of and those for which you can apply for membership. |
Using services for asynchronous collaboration |
Collaboration provides functions for asynchronous cooperation with other portal users by means of forums, discussions, managing tasks, and attachments for tasks or documents. For asynchronous collaboration, you can also use general Knowledge Management functions such as feedback and nomination requests, ratings, and comments. |
Using services for real-time collaboration |
The services for real-time collaboration – instant messaging and application sharing – allow you to exchange information online and interactively with other portal users. In addition, you can use services provided by third-party companies, such as WebEx sessions. |
Using groupware services |
Since the groupware (Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino) used at your company can be integrated into the portal, the corresponding services for e-mail, scheduling, and displaying the availability of portal users are available. |
