Providing Rooms 

Purpose

Collaboration offers rooms as configurable virtual working environments for portal users. In a room, the member of teams or project groups can collaborate across time zones and between geographical locations.

As content administrator for Collaboration, you provide the room templates required in your enterprise.

Templates

Users use room templates to create rooms. Room templates contain basic specifications and settings for a room. For room parts, which you can insert into existing rooms as reusable modules, you require room part templates.

Permissions

By assigning portal roles, you give individual users permission to create or enter rooms. The access permissions to the pages in a room are determined by the room role that is assigned to the room member attempting to access the pages in question.

The following functions are available for providing rooms:

Function	Description
Pre-configuration for using rooms	Following the installation and basic configuration of the Collaboration components, you prepare the rooms for use in accordance with your enterprise-specific requirements. See: Preparing Rooms for Use
Management and provision of templates for rooms and room parts	You can create new templates or modify the templates delivered by SAP to allow users to create rooms in the portal. See: Providing Templates for Rooms and Standard Templates
