Procedure documentation Ad-hoc Query Designer: Defining New Queries with the Wizard Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can use the wizard for the ad-hoc query designer to create queries in a Web application following a step-by-step procedure.

Note

You can only create queries with the wizard. In the ad-hoc query designer itself, you can edit the queries further or change existing queries.

Prerequisites

You have created a Web application containing the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item.

Procedure

  1. In the ad-hoc query designer, choose Create Query with Wizard. You get to the Choose an InfoProvider dialog box.
  2. Choose the InfoProvider that you want to use from your history or from the complete list under InfoAreas and then choose Continue.
  3. Define the columns

Select the key figures that you want to see in the columns of the query. Expand the nodes Calculated or Restricted Key Figures if necessary, to be able to select existing calculated or restricted key figures.

Choose Next.

  1. Define the rows

Expand the relevant dimension directory and select the characteristic that you want to see in the rows of the query.

Choose Next.

  1. Define the free characteristics

Expand the relevant dimension directory and select the characteristics that are available when you navigate in the query so that you can add them to the drilldown.

Choose Next.

  1. Define the filter

Expand the relevant dimension directory and select the characteristic according to which you want to restrict the data set of the query.

Caution

In order to restrict a data set, you have to restrict the selected characteristics to a number of characteristic values. You cannot do this in the wizard. To do this, you have to edit the query in the ad-hoc query designer after you have defined it in the wizard. Select the characteristic in the filter and from the context menu, choose Select Filter Values.

If a hierarchy is defined for the characteristic, an additional dialog box appears automatically before the Select Filter Values dialog box. Here you can choose whether you want to restrict the characteristic according to the flat list of characteristic values or using a hierarchy. If you select a hierarchy, the Select Filter Values dialog appears with a hierarchically structured selection.

Choose Next.

  1. The query definition is displayed and specifies the source InfoProvider, the contents of the filter and the free characteristics as well as a preview of the rows and columns of the query.

If you want to change the query definition, choose Back. If you want to leave the query as it is, choose Transfer. The wizard window closes.

Result

The query that you defined is displayed in the ad-hoc query designer.

You can now save the query. Choose Save. A dialog box appears.

    1. From the dropdown box, choose the folder, favorites or roles in which you want to save the query.
    2. Enter a technical name and a description for the query.
    3. Choose Transfer.

Note

You can execute the query without saving it.

Choose Execute.

The query is displayed in a different frame or in other Web items in the current Web template, depending on how the attributes for the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item are set up.
