Administration of the Internet Communication
Manager
The Internet Communication Manager (ICM) is the component of the SAP Web Application Server that receives and sends Web requests (HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP).
If you want to use the SAP Web AS as a Web server or client, you have to configure and monitor the ICM. The ICM administration functions are managed partly using profile parameters, and partly using the ICM monitor (transaction SMICM).
You can find
information about the structure and functions of the ICM in the architecture
documentation under
Internet Communication
Manager (ICM).
This documentation comprises the following sections:
·
Parameterization of
the ICM and the ICM Server Cache describes all the profile parameters that
are important for operating the ICM. You will also find an example profile
here.
·
Monitoring the ICM
describes how to administrate and monitor the ICM. You can use the ICM Monitor or the
Web
Administration Interface to do this.
·
You can also
control the ICM using operating system signals. For
details see
Using Signals to
Control the ICM.
·
The ICM enables requests to be recorded.
For more information see
Logging in the
ICM
·
If you want to bind ports with numbers
under 1024 in UNIX, you can use an external binding program. For more
information see:
Binding Ports <
1024 on UNIX.
·
You can configure HTTP errors to be
handled by the ICM. The procedure is described in
Error Handling Using
the ICM.
·
For tips on analyzing errors using the
ICM see
Problem Analysis and
Error Search.
