Component documentation Administration of the Internet Communication Manager Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

The Internet Communication Manager (ICM) is the component of the SAP Web Application Server that receives and sends Web requests (HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP).

Implementation Considerations

If you want to use the SAP Web AS as a Web server or client, you have to configure and monitor the ICM. The ICM administration functions are managed partly using profile parameters, and partly using the ICM monitor (transaction SMICM).

Integration

You can find information about the structure and functions of the ICM in the architecture documentation under Structure linkInternet Communication Manager (ICM).

Features

This documentation comprises the following sections:

·        Structure linkParameterization of the ICM and the ICM Server Cache describes all the profile parameters that are important for operating the ICM. You will also find an example profile here.

·        Structure linkMonitoring the ICM describes how to administrate and monitor the ICM. You can use the ICM Monitor or the Structure linkWeb Administration Interface to do this.

·        You can also control the ICM using operating system signals. For details see Structure linkUsing Signals to Control the ICM.

·        The ICM enables requests to be recorded. For more information see Structure linkLogging in the ICM

·        If you want to bind ports with numbers under 1024 in UNIX, you can use an external binding program. For more information see: Structure linkBinding Ports < 1024 on UNIX.

·        You can configure HTTP errors to be handled by the ICM. The procedure is described in Structure linkError Handling Using the ICM.

·        For tips on analyzing errors using the ICM see Structure linkProblem Analysis and Error Search.
